Writing System

The writing system of the text or part of it.

Why specify the writing system separately from the language, as is done in EpiDoc (IETF BCP 47 standard)? Because the identity of the writing system does not correspond to linguistic identity.

Syntax

Any valid metadata key referring to the writing system followed by an equal sign = and a valid ISO 15924 writing system code, enclosed within dollar signs $…$.
